SCM Frigo – at the fair show with Augmented Reality

Why Augmented Reality for refrigeration systems?
SCM Frigo develops advanced and sustainable natural gas-based technologies, offering chillers and refrigeration solutions for cold rooms intended for food storage and distribution, as well as for applications in stores and supermarkets.
At the international trade fair for refrigeration industries Chillventa, the company faced the challenge of presenting technically advanced and large machinery whose size made physical transportation impractical.
Hence, a need to find an interactive and effective solution to allow the public to explore the machinery without having it physically at the show.
In collaboration with the company, we made an AR tag to be framed with tablets to allow the app to:
- present in 3D in Augmented Reality a complete plant with SCM Frigo products without space constraints;
- show information and components in 3D by streaming in real-time from tablet to TV;
- display their products effectively and engagingly to the audience at the trade show during the event;
- stand out from competitors.
What is an AR tag?
An AR Tag is an innovative technology that uses augmented reality to overlay digital content on top of physical reality. Through the framing of a specific marker (or “tag”) with a device, such as a tablet or smartphone, the AR Tag activates virtual content, 3D models, videos, or detailed information, which appear directly overlaid in the visible environment on the screen. A unique way to amaze, inform, and capture attention in a single instant.
How did the AR help SCM Frigo?
In the case of SCM Frigo, the AR Tag was used to project the three-dimensional model of a complex piece of machinery directly onto a screen in real-time. By framing the tag with a tablet, the 3D model of the machinery appeared, allowing the exhibition audience to explore details and components allowing for an innovative and clear presentation.
Through this technology, refrigeration equipment was presented comprehensively and engagingly. With the AR Tag, the audience was able to:
- view the entire CO₂ refrigeration system;
- select a specific plant or part of it to observe all the details in 3D;
- receive detailed information about each part of the machine.
This solution allowed SCM Frigo to show a bulky piece of machinery (which could not have been present at the fair due to space and cost issues) in an accessible, informative, and realistic way, transforming the visitor experience and enhancing the impact of the presentation at the fair.
