ArchiMobile revolutionizes online furniture with selective algorithms and 3D configurator

Choosing the ideal kitchen for our home is not an easy task. To date, there are dozens of different types on the market, not to mention the multitude of materials and colours applicable to the various components that make them up. All this freedom of choice could be a really difficult initial obstacle to overcome, for a person who is approaching the world of furniture for the first time. That is why ArchiMobile was born.
ArchiMobile is a completely free online service that helps users select and configure their ideal kitchen. Through a guided choice among different kitchen families and a real-time 3D configuration, the users are able in perfect autonomy to customize their kitchen and send that configuration to the nearest dealer to receive a quote. All this through any web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge …), whether from desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) or mobile (Android, iOS).
From type selection to part configuration

The flow of using the application is really simple and intuitive and is divided into the following steps:
- the users choose the desired kitchen type from the linear and corner variants. Having chosen one of the two shapes, the users can decide on the presence or absence of a peninsula;
- once the initial selection is passed, the software offers to users a series of pre-rendered kitchens in high definition. The users can express their preference or move on to the next kitchen. Through this step, the software can understand the users’ preferences regarding style, materials, colours, and component types (indoor or outdoor hood, built-in or freestanding refrigerator…);
- filter the users’ preferences through a finite number of preferences, the software switches to 3D mode, proposing the kitchen that comes closest to the previously expressed tastes;
- within the 3D configurator, the users can, completely reconfigure their kitchen, choosing new colours, materials, and components through a special user interface;
- concluded the customization, the software allows the users to send their configuration to one of the nearest proposed retailers. The users will be contacted as soon as possible by an expert for a quote.

The entire process of use has been designed and implemented to be simple and intuitive. But this simplicity of use, this step-by-step guided selection, in no way detracts from the degree of customization of one’s kitchen. If the style proposed after the selection process is not the one desired, the online 3D configurator guarantees complete freedom to reconfigure.
The users have full freedom to change the following features again:
- monochrome or two-tone;
- preferred colours;
- desired materials;
- material of the countertop;
- type of cooktop;
- type of hood;
- type of refrigerator;
- peninsula style.
Technological innovations in the service of simplicity
What makes the ArchiMobile service unique is its ability to make the users’ experience consistent and continuous, while maintaining a high level of graphical quality, despite the many different coexisting technologies.
Selective algorithms for guided selection

As previously discussed, approaching the world of furniture as a novice can be a complex experience nowadays. That is why ArchiMobile offers a step-by-step guided selection. With each preference expressed by the users for the presented kitchen, the system recognizes its main features and saves them as favourites. Moving forward with the selection, the system is able to figure out with increasing precision which features are most appreciated, gradually proposing kitchens more and more in line with the users’ wishes.
At the end of the selection process, the algorithm proposes in the 3D configurator the kitchen that comes closest to the users’ preferred characteristics. Such a kitchen will represent the basis for a possible further configuration.
Seamless integration between the two different technologies
The web application was designed and developed to offer the users a consistent and seamless experience. Within it, however, two profoundly different worlds coexist. The technology that enables the real-time rendering of 3D objects and environments (WebGL), is profoundly different from the technology that enables the development of a more common web page.
One of the most important challenges of ArchiMobile was precisely to create a single user experience, making two different technologies coexist within a single navigation tab. The users are not forced to jump from one page to another, switch from one service to another, or use particular 3D modelling programs. The entire experience remains confined within ArchiMobile, and all technological changes remain completely transparent to them.
Photorealism directly on the web browser

Another major challenge ArchiMobile faced was rendering graphics as close to the real world as possible. All within a web browser is certainly not the ideal platform for achieving photorealism.
This was made possible by careful observation of real material samples, and how they interact with ambient light and with each other. Great importance was also placed on lighting both in the real-time environment and the initial selection renders, to convey as neutral and truthful an image as possible to the users.
Finally, much work has been done in the optimization phase, both in terms of the 3D models (starting with production models) and the programming code. This has enabled ArchiMobile to achieve high levels of graphical quality, while still maintaining excellent fluidity of use.
The importance of the human factor
Such technological innovations would be meaningless if the whole process did not lead to something concrete. Being able to independently choose and configure one’s ideal kitchen is a really interesting opportunity, but the final guidance of a human expert is still indispensable. That is why once the configuration phase is over, the system allows you to send your creation to your nearest reseller.
The users will be contacted by an expert, who, thanks to the configuration received, will immediately know the customer’s possible tastes. This prior knowledge allows the interior designer to focus their advice and proposals around the client’s preferences, to arrive at the compilation of a quote in the shortest possible time.
